CITIES FIGHT 5G TOWERS NEAR HOMES & SCHOOLS
MILL VALLEY SUCCESSFULLY BLOCKS 5G DEPLOYMENTS IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS
On September 6, 2018, the City Council of Mill Valley voted unanimously to effectively block deployments of small-cell 5G wireless towers in the city’s residential areas. Blocks on 5G deployments are nothing new for Marin County, where other cities including San Anselmo and Ross have passed similar ordinances designed to thwart 5G expansion efforts over health concerns.
MAYORS AND COUNTIES PLAN TO SUE THE FCC IN FEDERAL COURT
The U.S. Conference of Mayors strongly opposes recent proposals by the FCC. This unprecedented federal intrusion into local (and state) government property rights will have substantial adverse impacts on cities and their taxpayers, including reduced funding for essential local government services, as well as an increased risk of right-of-way and other public safety hazards. The Conference and its members will seek relief in Federal Court to overturn this unprecedented overreach by the FCC.

Members of the Mill Valley City Council voted unanimously to block deployments of 5G towers in the city's residential areas by activating an Urgency Ordinance. The legislation, which is active immediately, allows authorities to enact regulations affecting the health and safety of residents. San Anselmo and Ross have already adopted similar ordinances.

The City of Petaluma voted to protect its residents From 4G/5G Densification! Cell towers must be 500 feet from homes and towers must be 1,500 feet apart. Petaluma City Council listened to resident concerns and adopted a strong ordinance.

Small Cell Towers Nixed at Monterey Planning Commission. Commissioners OVERRULED City staff and voted 7-0 to deny telecom giant Verizon’s application for a small cell tower in the Monte Vista neighborhood of Monterey.
